12/3/2013 - Coach Mikes 2 Wins, 1 Loss, 2 Pending Matches

Katrina and Mer played 1st Doubles and won in 2 sets.  That is the way to do it girls!
Lorraine pulled off another singles win going to a tie breaker in the 3rd set!  Way to go!
Carrie and I lost but I think we set a record for the most 3-3 games.  That is one thing that I would like to get better at winning at 3-3.  Carrie's serve's and net play were excellent, but we lost to Celeste and Kim at Coach Mikes. I don't know if it was worth the 4 hour drive to play, but we made it up there.  Hopefully the other 2 teams can get rescheduled and get the win for the team.  A fun tennis day to get away in the winter snowstorm.

11/26/13 - Ogden Won 3 - Lost 2

It was a fun win today against Ogden.  Lorraine played a great singles match and won!!!  I played with Katrina and we took off strong in the first set to win 6-3.  The second set Linda and Jennifer changed their strategy and we backed off from being aggressive at the net.  Katrina called that the ball went through a hole in the net and Ogden challenged it.  We learned that we needed to stand by our call instead of asking them what they thought.  We replayed the ball, but we should have held our ground just like a line call.  I learned that sometimes it is better to return the ball at the net players hard rather than try to lob.  We lost the second set 6-2 so we went to a tie breaker.  After a very long battle we won it 12-10.  I knew we could do it if we stayed focused and stayed aggressive at the net.  Even when we were down 8-4 we came back to win it.   What did you guys learn today from your match???

Ivory Ridge - Match 11/19/2013 Won 2, Lost 3

Julie & Susan

Tracy & Jenn
Today against Ivory Ridge we won 2, lost 3 to very close matches.  I played backhand with Jenn.  We won the first set 6-3.  The second set we won 6-4.  We played against Terri and Carla.  What I learned from talking to my partner during the match was that I was swinging at my volleys instead of just blocking them. Carla hit hard at the net person on the return and we learned we had to back up further from the net.  It was a fun match.

11/12/2013 - Match Against Eagle Ridge - North Salt Lake Team

I played with Mer Monson as 3rd Doubles.  What we learned from losing our first set 3-6 was that we needed to switch up our game in the second set.  Our opponents were very good at their serves and coming to the net.  They did not lob a lot so there was not a need to go one up and one back in play.  We both tried harder to get to the net as quickly as we could to change strategies.  We ended up winning 6-2 to put us in for the tie breaker in the third set.  What helped me to play better was to visualize the next game as a win.  So if we were at 6-4 I would concentrate on getting to 7.  At 9-8 we were receiving the ball and were able to put the ball away to win 10-8.  It was a very fun match to play with Mer.  Tell me what you learned from playing against Eagle Ridge and what you could have done better with your partner to win.  Looking forward to your match against Ivory Ridge on November 19th.
